Salsa is spicing up the Saturday Market with chef demonstrations and the 3rd annual Salsa Contest.

Get a taste of what to expect at Salsalicious, visit Janet Majure's flickr page devoted to Salsalicious 2008. Janet writes the great blog foodperson.com and has lots to share on food and agriculture with a focus on NE Kansas. Here is her post on Salsalicious 2008.

August is just around the corner and to celebrate we are going to start the month off with our 3rd annual Salsalicious event. Don't let the cool weather fool you, this is the season for salsa!  Starting at 8:30 am Kate Gonzalez of Global Cafe will show us how to make a few of her salsa recipes.  She will be followed by Alejandro Lule of La Parilla at around 9:15.  In addition to what the chefs have whipped-up, throughout the morning we will offer samples of the various salsas that are for sale around the market. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we are hosting a contest of the best fresh salsas.  If you want to see how your salsa recipe stacks-up bring a sample (at least 2 cups) and the recipe to the market information booth before 8:45 am and we will then put out samples to be judged by the shoppers (fresh salsa only, not canned). We will close the contest at 9:45 or when the salsas run out, whichever comes first. The winners will not only receive great pride and honor, but prizes as well.
