Downtown Lawrence Farmers Market Coodinator, and former Growing Growers apprentice, Tom Buller says, "Eat your broccoli!"

The Growing Growers program will hosts a workshop on the "Taste and Nutrition of Local Foods" on Monday, August 10th, from 4 to 7 pm in Lawrence.

The "line up" for this workshop is great, with nutritionist Lisa Markley covering nutritional info, Hilary Brown of Local Burger sharing tasty samples to demonstrate the great flavors of local, fresh food and a farm tour of Spring Creek Farm, where former Growing Growers apprentice Stephanie Thomas grows an abundance of vegetables for the Lawrence Farmers Market, the Merc and a CSA.

Whether you are a local food fan seeking more information or a grower looking for help marketing your food, this is a great event. I was just reviewing my notes and handouts from last year's workshop and I can see how useful this information would be when working with your shoppers at market.

Attendees are welcome to pay at the door (registration fee is $15) but please call or email Laura to pre-register so they can plan to have enough information materials and samples:

FYI: Growing Growers was established to address this need for more farmers and for more effective farmers.   As a collaboration between K-State Research and Extension, University of Missouri Research and Extension, the Kansas City Food Circle (a consumer organization), and the Kansas Rural Center, we set out the goal of providing educational opportunities to help new growers get started and established ones get better at what they do.
