Savor the Season Logo

We are soliciting recipes for the 2010 Savor the Season Program.

Savor the Season highlights specific crops available at Kansas farmers markets through recipes and product information such as selection, storage, preparation and nutritional info.

And we are hoping you're a devoted fan of one or more of the fruits and vegetables below. If you have a tried and true recipe starring one of the following crops, please do share!

A 2009 Savor the Season card highlighting cherry tomatoes

The selected 2010 Savor the Season specialty crops are:

  • Salad Mix
  • Napa Cabbage
  • Bok Choy
  • Beans (fresh, not dried)
  • Okra
  • Cantaloupe
  • Heirloom Tomatoes
  • Eggplant
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Swiss Chard
  • Acorn Squash

We are seeking recipes for each fruit and vegetable in the following categories:

  • Simple: Five ingredients or less (not counting herbs, spices, oil)
  • Fine: Worth the extra time or extensive ingredient list
  • Keeper: Stores well (including canning, freezing or dehydrating)
  • Traveler: Representative of a food culture from around the globe

The recipes may be used in several ways. One recipe will be selected to appear on the back of the crop's Savor the Season card.* Other recipes will be incorporated into the media releases, recipe sheets distributed to markets and added to the Learn a Recipe section of this website.

If you have a recipe using one of the 2010 Savor the Season crops, please email it to mercedes [dot] taylorpuckett [at] gmail [dot] com (Mercedes). You'll want to include the following in your email:
